Fiber Is Really Great!

Fiber Is Really Great!

High fiber diets are associated with:

  • Lower rates of colorectal cancer.
  • Lower rates of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
  • Lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol.
  • Reduced risk of complications in people with diverticulosis.
  • Reduced blood glucose spikes after meals -- fiber slows sugar absorption, which is particularly beneficial for people with, or at risk of, type 2 diabetes.

Fiber is also a pre-biotic. That means it feeds your gut microbiome, supports gut lining health, and reduces inflammation.

Bonus! Fiber even makes you feel full on fewer calories.

Most Significantly

Long-term fiber intake is linked to lower rates of "all-cause mortality” (death from any cause, according to large population studies).

Most adults should aim for 25–30 grams per day, but the average American gets half or less of that.

Some great options for fiber are berries (especially raspberries), nuts, beans, and anything "whole wheat" or "whole grain."

Junebars are also a great source of fiber, containing around 25% recommended daily value in a convenient, delicious package.

I appreciate you all. Eat something real!

A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis in Clinical Nutrition pooled 64 eligible studies with a total sample size of 3,512,828 subjects investigating the association between dietary fiber intake and mortality from all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer.
